Rules and Regulations

The Executive Committee acting alone may vary these Rules and Regulations from time to time.

Any variations may not conflict with the ITF Rules or the Constitution of the UKTA.

 

Rule 1

MEMBERS.

A Member shall be any person who has paid the appropriate annual fee and has a current licence. All UKTA members over fourteen years of age shall also pay the appropriate fee and become Life Members of the ITF.

Rule 2

HONORARY MEMBER.

A person may be granted honorary membership on a majority verdict of the Executive Committee.


Rule 3

BLACK BELTS.

i) Adults. Any member who is sixteen years of age or more and has passed the appropriate grading Examination.

ii) Junior. Any member under sixteen years of age who has passed the appropriate grading examination.

iii) Instructors. Any Black Belt who has passed the appropriate Instructors Training Course, who has a valid Professional Indemnity insurance and is eighteen years of age or more. In special circumstances the Executive Committee may make exceptions to the training or age requirements. Instructors shall, when teaching at their own school always wear the appropriate epaulette's and a coloured stripe, of 5mm width, down the side seams of the trousers as follows: -

•  First Degree Class ‘C' Instructor shall wear green stripes.

•  Second Degree Class ‘B' Instructor shall wear blue stripes.

•  Third Degree Class ‘A' Instructor shall wear red stripes.

•  International Instructor shall wear a black stripe 3 cm wide on the outside of the jacket sleeves and trousers, in accordance with page 178 in Volume 2 of the Encyclopaedia of Taekwon-Do.


Rule 4

UKTA LICENCE & GRADING BOOKLET.

All Members must possess one of these booklets and ensure that the Membership Licence is renewed at least six weeks before the date of expiry.

Rule 5

PREMISES.

i) School. Any training hall under the supervision of an Instructor who is in possession of a Registration Certificate.

ii) Institute. A recognised training hall available throughout the day solely for Taekwon-Do training and with a 4th Dan or above as Senior Instructor who is in possession of an Institute Registration Certificate.

iii) Academy. A recognised training hall that is available throughout the day solely for Taekwon-Do training and with a Master who is in possession of an Academy Registration Certificate as the Chief Instructor.

iv) New Premises. When considering any new premises Instructors must always behave in an ethical manner in relation to existing UKTA schools and their Instructors. Any new premises must always be confirmed to the UKTA in writing.

Rule 6

GRADINGS.

i) Frequencies. Instructors should make Colour Belt gradings available to students at regular intervals. This should be at least four times per year. Black Belt gradings shall be held twice per year. This will usually be during the months of March and September.

ii) Fees. Grading fees may be varied from time to time and shall be agreed by the Executive Committee. Any re-examination for colour belt or black belt will be paid for in full. Reassessment gradings shall come into force for any Member who breaks their training period for more than twelve months.

iii) Examiners. The Chief Examiner shall be Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha, 9th Dan and in the event of him being unavailable, he shall appoint Deputy Examiners. In accordance with item ten of the ITF Rules Fourth Dan's and above who are classified as International Instructors shall be entitled to grade their own students. These Gradings must always be notified to the Chief Examiner and conducted in full compliance with all ITF Rules.

Hospitality that is appropriate shall always be made available to the Chief Examiner or Deputies.

Rule 7

PERIOD OF WAITING BETWEEN GRADINGS.

In accordance with ITF Rules and excluding authorised time reductions for attendance at special ITF courses the waiting times between Dan gradings shall be in accordance with page 94 in Volume 1 of the Taekwon-Do Encyclopaedia.

The normal waiting times are as follows: -

i) Black Belts.

From First Dan to Second Dan

A minimum of Eighteen Months.

From Second Dan to Third Dan

A minimum of Two Years.

Third Dan to Fourth Dan

A minimum of Three Years.

Fourth Dan to Fifth Dan

A minimum of Four Years.

Fifth Dan to Sixth Dan

A minimum of Five Years.

Sixth Dan to Seventh Dan

A minimum of Six Years.

Seventh Dan to Eighth Dan

A minimum of Seven Years.

ii) Coloured Belts.

From Tenth Kup to Ninth Kup

A minimum of one month.

From Ninth Kup to Eighth Kup

A minimum of one month.

From Eighth Kup to Seventh Kup

A minimum of two months.

From Seventh Kup to Sixth Kup

A minimum of two months.

From Sixth Kup to Fifth Kup

A minimum of three Months.

From Fifth Kup to Fourth Kup

A minimum of three Months.

From Fourth Kup to Third Kup

A minimum of four Months.

From Third Kup to Second Kup

A minimum of four Months.

From Second Kup to First Kup

A minimum of five Months.

From First Kup to First Dan

A minimum of six Months.

Rule 8

BLACK BELT GRADINGS.

The qualifications for taking Black Belt gradings area as follows: -

•  The Member taking the grading must have been taught by a qualified Instructor for a reasonable time before taking any grading examination.

•  From First Kup onwards a minimum of two training sessions per year under the UKTA Chief Instructor must be recorded in the Members' Licence Booklet.

•  The Member must attend the pre-grading course.

•  The Member's dobok must be very smart and clean (new if possible) with all of the necessary badges and insignia correctly attached.

•  The only protective equipment that may be worn is a groin guard for males and breast guard for females.

•  The participants must be physically fit and not suffering from any medical disability.

Rule 9

BADGES & BELTS.

i) Black Belt - Adult Members.

•  In accordance with Page 107 in Volume 13 of the Taekwon-Do Encyclopaedia adult Dan holders must wear a black belt which indicates the degree held in Roman numerals across the belt's width at one end, this to be visible on the side closest to wearer's left hand.

•  In accordance with Page 180 in Volume 2 of the Taekwon-Do Encyclopaedia Black edging 3 cm in width must be worn on the border of the Dobok Top.

•  The officially approved ITF badge must be worn on the left front of the Dobok at breast height.

•  The officially approved UKTA badge must be worn on the right front of the Dobok at breast height.

•  A Union Flag may be worn on the right sleeve of the Dobok at approximately four inches below the top of the shoulder.

ii) Black Belt Junior Members.

Junior Black Belt Members must comply with all adult requirements except that Junior Black Belts must wear a black belt with a white stripe running along the full length in the centre.

iii) Coloured Belt Members.

In accordance with Page 181 of Volume 2 of the Taekwon-Do Encyclopaedia, Colour Belt Members must wear the appropriate Coloured belt with tags. They must also wear the approved UKTA Dobok with ITF and UKTA badges in accordance with the descriptions for Black Belts.

iv) General.

Any Instructor may apply to the UKTA for approval of a badge to represent their school. When written confirmation has been received the official school badge must be worn on the left sleeve of the Dobok. The School badge must be positioned so that with the arm downward, the badge is at the same level as the UKTA and ITF badges. Any other insignia such as blazer badges shall only be worn when authorised by the Executive Committee.

Rule 10

NEWSLETTERS.

These will be published regularly and are for the benefit and information of all Instructors, Black Belts and Colour Belts. One newsletter per registered school will be sent and it is the duty and responsibility of the recipient to ensure that at least eleven members of the school are given the opportunity to see the newsletter. On application, all Black Belts can receive a personal copy of newsletters.

Rule 11

PRESS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS.

All articles for publicity or statements about the UKTA must be done through the Press Officer unless otherwise authorised by the Executive Committee.

Rule 12

COMPETITIONS.

These may only be organised with the permission of the Executive Committee. The Rules and Regulations for competitions will be in accordance with the All Europe Taekwon-Do Federation Rules. Any UKTA Member may apply to host a competition and when making their application they must identify any variations in the AETF Competition Regulations.

Rule 13

BTC LICENCE.

All Members must have a current British Taekwon-Do Council licence number within their UKTA Booklet.

Rule 14

QUALIFICATIONS OTHER THAN UKTA

Anyone wishing to join the UKTA from elsewhere must have suitable documentation to validate their grade. Where deemed necessary, they must also be prepared to submit themselves for assessment by an approved UKTA Examiner.

Rule 15

UKTA IMPROVEMENTS.

All projects that are presented to the Executive Committee for the betterment of the UKTA and are approved by the majority of the Membership/Instructors will be supported by all.

Rule 16

CONTRAVENTION OF RULES AND REGULATIONS.

Anyone contravening the above rules and regulations will be disciplined or may be expelled from the UKTA

Rule17

DISPUTES

In any dispute involving Members of the UKTA the details must first be placed before the Executive Committee and their ruling in the matter will be final. This regulation will not preclude any Member from subsequently appealing to the ITF.

Rule 18

ALTERATIONS.

All Instructors shall ensure that they retain a current and up to date copy of the Rules and Regulations.
