Presidents Letter

Dear Instructor,

Having completed the Masters Council meeting on 2nd June 2012, in line with the commitment made at the EGM of 29th April 2012, I am writing to inform you of our progress and relevant changes made to the constitution and structure. This starts with my position as Acting President. I will maintain this position until the AGM of 2012, where you will have an opportunity to elect a new President.

All of the relevant amendments to our constitution have been completed, with the full backing, input and support of all Masters in attendance. These were SM Prewett, SM Taylor, SM Miller, Master Cattanach, Master Small, Master Blackburn and myself. The revised document will be circulated shortly and also included on the website instructor section for you to view alongside a revised version of the Rules & Regulations. Please take time to become familiar with both documents.
SM O’Neill has tendered his resignation from UKTA with immediate effect. He felt that he could not work under the rules of UKTA, ITF and BTC, citing restrictions that prevent him being able to teach outside groups. To clarify this point I must make it clear that there has been NO change to these rules in recent years. We remain committed to following the rules of ITF (As our International Governing Body) and BTC (The Sports Council recognised body for TKD in the UK). As founding members of the BTC we have ensured our involvement in the benefits and introduction of excellent policies on Child Protection, Instructor Code of Conduct, Health & Safety, Insurance and CRB/PVG Scheme.

The Office Manager, Miss Carrie King, will take up a role as acting National Secretary until a permanent replacement can be found. All correspondence regarding licences, school registration, gradings, seminar requests and any other communication should be directed to her.
The Masters Council remains responsible for conducting all area seminars and gradings. This is not to replace Area seminars and gradings. Gradings are only possible under the direction of the Council or an authorised International Instructor.

The Black Belt Grading & Seminar will take place from 7th – 9th September 2012 at the Park Club, Milton, Nr. Abingdon, Oxfordshire. It will be conducted by SM Taylor, SM Miller and I (The same panel that conducted the March grading in Edinburgh). Application forms and hotel details will be available soon. We will also use this venue for another IV Dan and above seminar in the summer.
Finally, I would like to thank you all for your continued support through what has been a very difficult period for our association. Rest assured the Masters Council and Senior Instructors are committed to UKTA remaining the bench mark for TKD practice.

Yours in Taekwon-Do,

SM John Williamson – Acting President
